Workshop
language pack for minority leaders
Cultivated for minority leaders and minority-led spaces, this workshop aims to “unpack” how minority leaders unconsciously adopt language that prevents them from leaning into their power, and to explore how to create a common language that instead affirms the knowledge, expertise, and integrity of these leaders. This powerful session inspires introspection and explores language through three lenses: coded language, diminishing language, and the adoption of oppressive language.
Primary objective: Participants understand how language is a crucial element of systemic oppression and discrimination.
Secondary objective: Participants comprehend how coded language and diminishing language impacts minority leadership.
Tertiary objective: Participants practice ways to shift away from oppressive language and into affirming language.
